This IDC study provides 2010–2012 revenue data and a 2013–2017 forecast for the worldwide public platform-as-a-service (PaaS) market. The opportunities for monetizing public PaaS functionality seem almost unlimited in light of the advances being made in social, mobile, and real-time contextual activities. Each of these drivers is closely linked to the cloud and acts as a force multiplier in both driving public PaaS demand and leveraging public PaaS capabilities.

By 2017, public PaaS will account for over 10% of overall AD&D revenue, with strong growth occurring in every region of the world, especially APJ. « The CAGR for the worldwide public PaaS 2013–2017 forecast is almost 30%, » said Robert Mahowald, program vice president for SaaS and Cloud Software research. « The 46.2% growth in the public PaaS market in 2012 suggests an exciting future for the worldwide public PaaS market. »
